In College - In Centre - Online - OnThe Job

Students commence their gas engineer training by completing a foundation to gas course which covers the legislation, principles and technology of gas safety. Training includes study of the 20 plus British Standards, Gas Safety Regulations and related Building Regs. Depending on current work commitments learners have a choice of undertaking this stage through a discounted placement to a local college or training partner.  As a Gas Academy Member you benefit from pre entry training to enable your entry to the scheme as an experienced trades professional and trainee gas engineer.

Domestic Gas Utilisation Course

Students commence by learning the theory behind gas safety. The course syllabus includes training on

Gas Legislation
Gas Rates and Heat Input
Gas Standing and Operating Pressures
Pipework Installation Standards
Pipework Sizing

Characteristics of Gas & Combustion
Flue & Chimney Standards
Ventilation Standards
Gas Tightness Testing & Purging
Gas Controls and Safety Devices
Gas Safety Regulations
Combustion Performance
Re-Establishing Gas Supplies and Commissioning
Gas Emergency Actions & Procedures

Appliances

CTSGroup students will go on to learn the procedures for working on various domestic gas appliances including

Gas Single Point Water Heaters
Gas Mutli Point Water Heaters
Gas Boilers
Gas Fires & Space Heaters
Gas Cookers (including Ovens, Grills and Hobs)
Gas Meters

Students will also be able to study for domestic LPG gas installation procedures and standards

Gas Safety Inspection and  Servicing

Our trainee gas engineers also benefit from training on Landlord Gas Safety Inspections and Appliance Servicing.

ACS Gas Assessment Certificates

After successfully completing your training both on and off the job, you will sit your acs (accredited certification scheme for gas fitting operatives) gas assessments. 

These assessment certificates are the recognised method of applying to work legally on gas, and are the essential conclusion to your training. These include

CCN1 - Core Domestic Gas Safety Certificate 
CPA1 - Combustion Performance and Flue Gas Analysis
CENWAT - Gas Boilers and Water Heaters
CKR1 - Gas Cooking appliances
HTR1 - Gas Fires and Space Heaters (Optional extra)
MET1 - Gas Meter Installation
Students can also select from additional competences where this experience has been gained during on the job training. 

Students can also choose to upskill to LPG Domestic Gas or even Commercial Gas after completing their CCN1 and developing some post grad site experience.
